This crafted studio in Leyton was designed as a box-in-box solution using glulam and timber for a music producer. The small site posed challenges, including a buried concrete bomb shelter, which we spanned using screw piles to minimise ground disturbance and concrete use. The exposed glulam frame forms the inner soundproof structure, insulated with recycled denim and sheep wool, with an outer skin of masonry. We collaborated closely with A-Zero Architects and Kahle Acoustics to align the structural design with both acoustic performance and aesthetic goals.
