The Acorn

The Acorn is a timber diagrid living space, constructed from prefabricated timber diamond cassettes. Its domed form was optimised for structural efficiency using Rhino, Grasshopper, and Karamba, with hoop stresses resisted by plywood sheathing or steel tension cables acting as ring beams. An internal mezzanine is suspended from the external diagrid frame. Screw pile foundations were chosen to enable easy removal at end of life, minimising environmental impact.
