The Carriage Works in Swindon is a series of Grade II listed warehouse unit structures collectively known as the West Shed which was constructed in 1876 during the expansion of the Great Western railway. Their refurbishment provides new workspace for creative and educational enterprises. Two new lightweight steel and timber mezzanines are constructed above new concrete vault structure below which spans on to existing cast iron columns. Early targeted investigations and surveys were critical in assessing the existing structure to inform the new proposals.
