The Carpenters Estate regeneration in Newham is a major urban renewal project delivering over 2,000 homes over the next 11 to 15 years. As part of this, a 2,000m² site at the estate’s edge is being developed for temporary use, focusing on retaining the existing TMO building and garages while incorporating reclaimed materials and timber to reduce embodied carbon. The scheme includes two new two-storey buildings, an additional storey and roof terrace on the existing TMO building, and the conversion of garages into office space. Designed with future disassembly in mind, the project avoids wet trades and uses standardised, reversible connections to enable material reuse at end of life.
