MEng in Civil Engineering, University of Bath
Phil is an excellent creative problem solver, combining his strong analytical skills with creative thinking to find simple solutions to complex problems. He strongly believes in the value that research brings to projects, born from the time he spent in Bath studying for his PhD. Phil remains actively involved in teaching and currently holds visiting research and teaching positions at the University of Bath.
Phil particularly enjoys projects which involve complex geometry and has been leading the design of a new restaurant in Mauritius, the structure of which is conceived as a series of triangulated panels connected along their edges. A number of structural options have been developed in coordination with the architect to achieve the architectural aspirations whilst maintaining a tight budget.
Closer to home Phil is currently leading on the design of the ground works for a new 5 storey block of flats on a tightly constrained site nestled between a rail track and a main road. Phil has been working closely with Network Rail to obtain the necessary approvals for the works given the close proximity to the rail lines.
Phil is currently a Visiting Research Fellow at the University of Bath, tutoring engineering and architecture students on their final year joint design projects and lecturing on the history of structural engineering.
In his spare time Phil is a keen runner and enjoys a spot of surfing when the weather is good.
