Afflet's Court
This Passivhaus Sheltered Housing scheme for Basildon Council consists of a cross-laminated timber superstructure. A number of material options were considered in the early stages of the project with the primary goal of designing a building that had both low embodied carbon, low operational carbon and which could be constructed with minimal disruption to neighbours living in close proximity. Cross-laminated timber is well suited to the proposed block layouts. The panels also provide a robust thermal seal which was important in considering the building’s energy performance.
